Get Started on Your New Year’s Resolutions

Don’t wait until the new year to start working towards your New Year’s Resolutions. DoctorsCare has some tips to help you kick off those healthier lifestyle choices before the holiday season! 

Some of the most popular new year’s resolutions include exercising more, losing weight, and making healthier diet choices; however, why wait until January 1st to work towards those goals?

Set Goals

Write down what you want to accomplish over the next month, 6 months, and year and why you want to accomplish these. Do you want to exercise 30 minutes a day? Lower your blood pressure or reduce your cholesterol? Cook more meals at home? Feel better and healthier? Make sure your goals are realistic as easier and attainable goals will be easier to stick with.

Plan Shopping Lists and Meals

Write down ingredients that will help you be healthier, whether it’s adding more fruits, vegetables or eliminating processed foods. Try some new meals and healthier recipes around the holiday season. It might help make you feel less worried about consuming treats and larger portions of food around the holidays.

Reduce Stress

This may be tough during the holiday season as they tend to be stressful but find ways to reduce your stress levels. 

  • Don’t procrastinate. Stay on top of your priorities as the holidays approach so you’re not running around last minute.
  • Write down what you’re grateful for to focus on positive thoughts.
  • Exercise. Take a walk or try a yoga class. Exercise is one of the best ways to reduce stress.

Find What Works For You

Not everyone enjoys going to the gym. Try walking, going for a bike ride, at-home workouts, or trying various activities until you find what you enjoy doing. It will be easier to continue if you enjoy what you’re doing, especially if it fits your schedule.

Stay Motivated

Write down your goals, keep a food journal, find what works for you. Maybe ask your spouse or a friend to join this journey with you and hold each other accountable. Most importantly, remember to set attainable goals.
