Spring is when rain showers make the flowers bloom, the days seem longer, and allergies are in full force. DoctorsCare explains the common spring illnesses and how to keep yourself healthy
After being stuck indoors during the winter months, it’s hard not to open all your windows and spend more time outdoors once the weather gets nicer. Here are some of the most common spring illnesses to be careful of.
Common Cold
- Springtime weather can lead to the common cold.
- Avoid getting sick by washing your hands frequently, eating right, sleeping enough, and practicing proper sanitary practices.
- If you’re experiencing symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, congestion, cough, or any of these other symptoms, stop by one of our two conveniently located DoctorsCare locations so we can help determine whether you have a common cold or even the flu.
Allergies
- Allergies start to flare up in the spring due to pollen blowing in the air off trees and plants.
- Symptoms of allergies may include itchy or swollen eyes, runny nose, headaches, and congestion.
- Talk to your doctor about what medicines to take to help you throughout the day.
Asthma
- While asthma is a condition those have year-round, it can be triggered more in the spring by pollen, dust, changes in the air temperature, and even some insect repellants.
- To prevent asthma flare-ups, change your home air filters frequently, keep windows and doors closed, and have your inhaler or medication on hand while outdoors.
Lyme Disease
- Lyme disease is caused by tick bites, which come out in warmer weather.
- Always check for ticks after playing outdoors in grassy areas, especially taller grass.
- If you suspect a tick bite and have a rash and/or fever, it’s safest to get checked out by a doctor to rule out Lyme disease.
